Hundreds of right-wing and ultranationalist Israeli activists descended on an encampment in the Gaza border region yesterday for a conference on how to reestablish Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip.

The event, titled "Preparing to Settle in Gaza", was organised by the extremist Nachala Settlement Movement, which is led by Daniella Weiss - who is often regarded as the godmother of the Israeli settler movement.

Addressing the conference, which was also attended by Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Knesset members from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party, Weiss called for Palestinians living in Gaza to be relocated to other countries. Weiss added that more than 700 families were ready to settle in Gaza, where more than 42,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since October last year.
