Why is Kamala Harris ignoring Democratic voters when it comes to Gaza?

More than 80% of Democrats favor a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, while almost 80% want to stop weapons shipments to Israel. Young voters, progressives, and other key demographics that presidential hopeful Kamala Harris needs to win the election are rejecting the administration’s genocidal policies.

In states like Minnesota and Michigan, large portions of the Democratic base are distancing themselves from the party. In Michigan alone — a state with a significant Arab and Muslim population and home to Dearborn, perhaps ‘the most Arab city’ outside the Middle East — nearly 60% of Arab American voters backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

This compares to just 35% for Donald Trump. However, a new poll finds Trump winning the Arab American vote 46-42 among likely voters. If the US political system can only offer two major candidates supporting genocide, maybe fascism is already here, even if it is being masked and marketed as joy.

Since Harris has largely abandoned and ignored Arabs and progressives screaming to end the genocide, she should not be surprised if they abandon her, says Ahmed Shihab-Eldin.
