In Damascus, an exhibition organized by "Wolfi"—meaning "My Friend" in Arabic—has brought renewed attention to the traditional Hamwi handicraft. This historic art form, which has been in decline since the onset of the Syrian war in 2011, uses wooden blocks and natural inks and is an old craft that was used by people with modest means to create intricate designs on everyday items like table covers, bed sheets, and curtains. The event aimed to preserve and revive this important cultural heritage of Syria.
