During a guest appearance on Late Night With Seth Myers on US TV on Monday night, US President Joe Biden took the opportunity to remind audiences that he was a Zionist.
He also used the platform to say that Israel must take advantage of an opportunity to have peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians.
He added that Israel would halt its war in Gaza during the month of Ramadan if a hostage-release deal is reached. The US President has called himself a Zionist on several occasions before and has long expressed support for Israel. During a Senate debate in 1986, he said "were there not an Israel, the United States of America would have to invent an Israel to protect her interests in the region".
Last year, Biden said: "I don't believe you have to be a Jew to be a Zionist, and I am a Zionist," when meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his war cabinet during his visit to Israel.
