Egyptian ‘The Voice Kids’ superstar loses six relatives in Coptic church fire tragedy

Miretya Emad, an Egyptian superstar of the MBC Arabic's version of "The Voice Kids" for 2016, lost six relatives in the church fire that had erupted at Abi Sefein Coptic Orthodox church in Giza province west of the capital Cairo during Sunday mass.

Emad's maternal aunt, one cousin and her three children and another female cousin were amongst the victims of the tragedy.

"I can't believe it. You will be missed, the most precious people to me," she wrote on her Facebook page.

The fire claimed the lives of 41 worshipers, including the priest and at least a dozen children, who mostly died from Asphyxiation.

Preliminary findings revealed that the fire was caused by a short circuit in a power generator.

Christians make up approximately 10 per cent of the population of Muslim-majority Egypt.

Most of Egypt's Christians are Coptic Orthodox and they are among the world's oldest Christian communities.
