Video of stray dog climbing Egypt's second-largest pyramid goes viral

Video of a stray dog spotted on top of the iconic 136-metre-tall Pyramid of Khafre near Cairo in Egypt has gone viral on social media.

The video taken by an American paraglider named Marshall Mosher who flew over the Pyramids of Giza at sunrise earlier last week, showed the dog after he climbed the country's second largest pyramid.

In the video that has so far garnered millions of views and made news headlines worldwide, the dog seemed happy while playing and jumping around as it barked at birds.

The action sports athlete filmed another video on the following day as he returned to the same spot in an attempt to save the dog, but to his surprise, the dog was no longer there.

Mosher later shared another footage, apparently taken by another adventurer, in which a similar looking stray dog appeared ascending the pyramid safely.

It was not immediately clear whether the two clips were of the same dog. Since then, the Giza Plateau where the Pyramids has witnessed more tourist turnout in the hope of finding the dog.  

Shortly afterwards, Egyptian government officials were quoted by news outlets as saying that stray dogs present in the area were regularly vaccinated and examined by the central veterinary administration to ensure the safety of tourists in the area.

Tourism is one of the Egypt’s main sources of national income and hard currency. Between January and June this year, the country attracted over seven million tourists, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities revealed in July.

The over 4000-old Pyramids of Giza are among the world’s major tourist attractions while the largest of them, Khufu, is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Scientists, aerologists and engineers are still debating how the Pyramids of Giza were built.
