Two commanders from the Kurdish-led forces were reportedly killed and three others wounded in a Turkish drone attack targeting a car in northern Syria on Saturday.

The incident that reportedly killed the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) members took place in the city of Aleppo.

A source close to the SDF told The New Arab's Arabic sister service Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that those targeted were two SDF leaders as well as cadres from the Democratic Union Party (PYD).

The SDF did not announce the deaths, the source said.

The PYD is affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which Turkey considers a terrorist organisation.

Ankara considers the Kurdish groups that make up the main component of the SDF to be fronts for the PKK.

It comes as the SDF continues a campaign of raids and searches in Deir Az-Zour province in northeastern Syria in response to attacks on its members in the region.

Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported on Saturday that activist Osama Abu Uday had said the campaign was continuing for the second day in a row.

He said there was a tense atmosphere in two towns in the area of the province concerned in the campaign after the Asayish police force arrested an elderly man and a child with special needs.

The Asayish and SDF are both loyal to the Kurdish-led Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.
