Suspects allegedly involved in Egyptian citizen's killing in Italy arrested
Egyptian authorities announced the arrest of murder suspects allegedly involved in the killing of an Egyptian citizen in Italy.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday the alleged culprits’ arrest in Milan, after the body of an Egyptian citizen, Muhammad Ibrahim Mansour, was found inside a car in a remote rural area of Vegevno, Pavia, Italy.
Preliminary investigations found the victim was shot before his car was set alight by the perpetrators, a ministry spokesperson said on February 13, according to The New Arab’s Arabic language service Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.
"Muhammad Ibrahim Mansour…was subjected to a murder accident in Italy, the Consulate General in Milan reported that the perpetrators had been arrested,” the ministry wrote in a statement on Facebook.
“According to the results of the investigations… the motive behind the killing was personal differences between the victim and his Italian daughter’s family… a search is underway for more suspects involved in the crime,” it added.
The ministry vowed to follow up on the progress of the investigations "to preserve the rights of the citizen" and to "ensure the speedy return of his remains" to Egypt.
A ministry spokesman also said the ministry would follow up with Mansour’s family members in Egypt, and that the consulate would do so with his family members in Italy, to ensure his body would be shipped to and buried in his homeland once legal procedures were completed.
