Son of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah launches Instagram profile, gains over 69,000 followers

The son of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah has opened an account on Instagram, gaining over 69,000 followers with just two posts on the platform.

Mohammad Mahdi Nasrallah's profile describes him as a "student of the Islamic sciences".

In one video, the Hezbollah leader's son silently writes on paper.

He doesn't move his mouth, but a recorded voiceover plays in which he speaks words written by the first leader, or imam, in Shia Islam, Ali ibn Abi Taleb.

A portrait of Mohammad's father is visible in the background of the shot.

The post has received a favourable response with more than 39,100 'likes' and some 1,850 comments.

"May Allah bless you," one user replied.

"The son of the strongest guy on the planet," another said.

A Hezbollah spokesperson said the Instagram profile was authentic.

"Mohammad Mahdi wants to show that he studies religious texts," she told Lebanese newspaper L'Orient-Le Jour.

"There's nothing political about it. He just wants to get started and give theological and cultural courses."

Hezbollah, a Lebanese movement aligned with Iran, is currently engaged in an armed escalation along Lebanon's southern border with Israel.

The fighting is linked to Israel's war on Gaza, which has so far killed more than 30,700 people in the strip.

Israeli forces have attacked hospitals, ambulances, and people looking for aid in Gaza.

The International Court of Justice in January said it was plausible Israel was breaching the Genocide Convention in the enclave.

The fighting in Lebanon has killed at least 51 civilians, according to an AFP tally.

In Israel, seven civilians have been killed.
