Riyadh Mahrez became the latest football player to express support for Palestinians on Sunday, waving the flag on the pitch after a 5-0 victory for Manchester City over Everton.

The Algerian winger also wore an Algerian flag draped around his shoulders as he held up the Palestinian flag.

Mahrez followed suit with Manchester United players Paul Pogba and Amad Diallo, who hoisted up the Palestinian flag as Israel continued its intense bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip.

"Pray for Palestine," Pogba wrote in an Instagram post last week.

Leicester City players Hamza Choudhury and Wesley Fofana also raised the Palestinian flag after a match this month.

Turkish-German star Mesut Ozil and Egyptian Arsenal player Mohamed Elneny are among a number of footballers to have posted solidarity messages online.

Players for the Chilean Club Deportivo Palestino also shared support for Palestinians amid police attacks on worshippers at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem earlier this month.

Players from the team, which was founded by Palestinian immigrants, wore Palestinian keffiyeh scarves on the pitch.
