US adult entertainment enterprise Playboy announced on Monday it had cut ties with Mia Khalifa for statements she made after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel over the weekend.

The company reportedly said in a statement that it had terminated its relationship with the media personality and former adult film actress, including deleting her channel on its creator platform.

Playboy said Khalifa had made "disgusting and reprehensible comments celebrating Hamas’ attacks on Israel and the murder of innocent men, women, and children".

About 800 Palestinians and 900 Israelis have been killed since fighters from the Palestinian group Hamas on Saturday launched an attack on Israel, firing rockets from Gaza and breaking through the Gaza-Israel border fence.

Israel launched an intensive bombing campaign on the densely-populated territory in response.

Israel claims its bombing campaign targets militant sites of interest, but officials in Gaza say that the overwhelming majority of Palestinians killed so far have been civilians and that strikes have been indiscriminate.

Hamas fighters have taken an estimated 150 Israelis hostage and continue to fire rockets at Israel.

Khalifa posted prolifically on social media since Hamas launched its operation.

"Can someone please tell the freedom fighters in Palestine to flip their phones and film horizontally," she said on X as footage of the operation and its aftermath was being shared widely on social media.

Khalifa doubled down on her stance after receiving responses defending Israel, saying: "I just wanna make sure there’s 4k footage of my people breaking down the walls of the open-air prison they’ve been forced out of their homes and into so we have good options for the history books that write about how they freed themselves from apartheid."

She has also condemned the spread of misinformation on the fighting.

She has yet to post publicly on social media since Playboy made their announcement, however.

Khalifa, who is Lebanese-American, has spoken out against past Israeli bombing offensives on the Gaza Strip.

She has also criticised the US for its financial backing of the Israeli military.
