Palestine's security forces killed a young Palestinian man in Jenin in the occupied West Bank on Saturday as they attempted to arrest two fighters.

Local sources told The New Arab's Arabic edition Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that Palestinian Authority forces were pursuing two members of the Jenin Battalion, affiliated with Palestinian Islamic Jihad's armed wing, claiming they were wanted.

One of the men was injured, and when they arrived at a hospital in Jenin, a confrontation broke out between the fighters and security forces.

Ahmed Mohammed Al-Bali, from Jenin refugee camp, was injured during the fighting. His death was announced later.

Al-Araby Al-Jadeed's sources said the young man was working at a restaurant in Jenin and had been on his way to deliver an order to the hospital when he was shot in the chest by Palestinian security services.

The security services stormed and searched the hospital but were prevented from entering the operating rooms, the sources said.

The forces failed to arrest the two fighters and withdraw from the medical facility.

A tense atmosphere prevails in the city of Jenin and its refugee camp after the announcement of the killing of the young man.

He was the 11th killed by Palestinian security forces in the West Bank since Israel's war on Gaza began in October.

Israel's offensive has killed at least 38,443 people in the strip, according to the coastal territory's health ministry.
