NYC protesters march on AIPAC headquarters, call for Gaza ceasefire
Protesters in New York City marched on the headquarters of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) on Thursday.
Trade unionists and members of Jewish and Muslim groups participated in the protest, progressive news website Common Dreams reported.
Jewish pro-Palestine organisation IfNotNow said on social media platform X that thousands attended the march on the headquarters of the pro-Israel lobbying group.
"The people demand a ceasefire," IfNotNow added, saying banners at the front showed the amount of money three politicians have reportedly taken from AIPAC.
The protest came amid Israel's war on Gaza, which has so far killed more than 20,000 people – the majority women and children.
Ambulances, hospitals, residential buildings, and places of worship have come under attack from Israeli forces.
"For two months, the whole world has watched as the Israeli military launched its assault on Gaza," the organisers of the protest said as they advertised their event.
"Disease, hunger, and thirst are spreading rapidly. Two million Palestinians have been displaced and thousands imprisoned by the Israeli state."
The Gaza war has prompted widespread protests across the world, including in the US, UK and Middle East.
Marches have repeatedly been held in the British capital London, drawing hundreds of thousands of protesters across the weeks.
The Gaza war has now seen more than 20,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza, with Israel destroying homes, schools, places of worship, and hospitals.
