The Israeli army wounded at least four Palestinians during clashes that erupted in the West Bank town of Al-Lubban Al-Sharqiyah, local sources said on Sunday.

Yaqoob Owais, mayor of the town, told The New Arab that the Israeli army dispersed a demonstration denouncing settlements and settler violence against the village residents.

He said the army fired stun grenades and tear gas at demonstrators who held a peaceful protest at the entrance of the village against settler violence, which saw Jewish settlers block Palestinian students from attending to their schools this week.

"Some of the demonstrators were bruised and suffocated as a result of the dispersal of the demonstration by the Israeli army," Owais said, adding that the medical staff provided treatment to the injured on site.

The Palestinian Authority's Resistance organised the demonstration, which saw protestors raise Palestinian flags and banners written in Arabic and English, calling for an end to Israeli measures against schoolchildren and residents of the village.

For days, Jewish settlers, under the protection of occupying Israeli forces, have obstructed the schoolchildren from getting to their school, which is located in "Area C".

The provocative Israeli measures prompted residents to escort their children to school every day, in fear that they will be attacked by settlers if they walked alone.

The village, home to at least 3,500 people, has witnessed clashes between Palestinian residents and Israeli settlers who live in two settlements illegally built on Palestinian lands.
