Islamic Resistance in Iraq claims responsibility for drone strike on Haifa port, citing support for Gaza
The "Islamic Resistance in Iraq" announced it targeted the Port of Haifa in the city of Haifa within the pre-1948 Palestinian territories using drones on Wednesday morning.
"In continuation of our resistance against the occupation [Israel], in support of our people in Gaza, and in response to the massacres committed by the occupying entity against Palestinian civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq targeted the Haifa port in our occupied lands this Wednesday morning, September 4, 2024, using drones," the IRI stated.
The group pledged to continue targeting "enemy strongholds."
Earlier, the Israeli military reported intercepting a drone launched from Iraq. According to the Israeli army, the drone was heading toward Israel from the east but was intercepted before entering Israeli airspace, with no injuries reported.
Israeli media indicated that the drone was intercepted near the Jordanian border.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, linked to the Popular Mobilization Forces, has claimed several drone attacks against Israel amid the ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza, which has resulted in over 41,000 Palestinian deaths.
In retaliation for Israel's bombardments in Gaza, Iraqi factions aligned with Iran have claimed to have conducted multiple attacks on Israeli targets and military bases hosting United States forces in Iraq and Syria, operating under the name of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq.
The US has retaliated with airstrikes on the bases of these Iraqi factions, leading to numerous casualties. Some of the airstrikes are suspected to have been conducted by Israel.
