Right-wing tech magnate Elon Musk is set to visit Oman in November for the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds (IFSWF), the event's official X page announced on Thursday.

Oman will host the forum's 16th annual gathering in Muscat.

"We are delighted to announce that @elonmusk, CEO of @SpaceX and @Tesla and Chairman of @X, will be joining us this November at our annual meeting in Muscat, Oman. He will discuss the #Technology and trends shaping today's world and the likely changes it will cast in the future," the IFSWF post said.

Musk's trip comes over a year after Oman issued a royal decree in 2023 allowing Starlink Muscat to build a satellite communications system in the country. Muscat also holds shares in Musk's SpaceX, with the Oman Investment Authority having acquired a stake in 2021.

The South African billionaire has increased his presence in the public eye in recent years, particularly with his takeover of Twitter in October 2022.

At the head of the social media platform, Musk has developed a controversial reputation, including for his views on matters related to the Middle East.

Earlier this year, Musk appeared to endorse an old video of the UAE’s foreign minister warning about an alleged rise in extremism among Muslims in Europe.

The tech magnate also came under fire after appearing to amplify far-right narratives on X during the far-right riots in the UK.

Marc Owen Jones, an Associate Professor at Northwestern University in Qatar told The New Arab at the time that Musk was attempting to spread anti-immigrant messaging seen by the right-wing press in the UK further.

"Musk is an influential individual and he's curating [X] to try and mobilize and spread this far-right message even further."
