WATCH: Palestinian child blindfolded, beaten by Israeli soldiers in Hebron

A Palestinian boy has spoken of his ordeal after he was kidnapped, blindfolded and detained by occupying Israeli forces in Hebron.

Abd al-Razeq Idris, 13, was detained by Israeli forces from his home in Abu Jales in occupied Hebron. He was blindfolded and driven around in a jeep to a location unknown to him and forced to walk blindfolded through the nearby neighbourhood of al-Harika, according to a report by rights group B'Tselem.

When Abd al-Razeq's father found them and demanded they hand over his son, the Israeli soldiers refused to allow him to return home and they drove him to a post in the illegal settlement of Kiryat Arba where he was interrogated.

Whilst he was in Israeli custody, he was verbally abused in Hebrew, a language he does not understand, and was beaten.

Abd al-Razeq described his trauma to B'Tselem, saying his ordeal began when Israeli forces forcibly closed his school and chose him as their victim.

"On Sunday, 3 November 2019, at about ten o'clock in the morning, they closed my school and sent us all home after soldiers threw gas cannisters in and around the schoolyard. My house is about three kilometers from the school, and I walked home with a friend," he explained

"Two soldiers jumped on me and started to drag me toward an Israeli jeep. One of them picked me up and put me in the jeep, and then he blindfolded me. I was really scared and didn’t understand what was going on," he said.

Abd al-Razeq added he stayed silent the whole time out of fear but was still slapped, kicked and spoken to in Hebrew.

After he was let out of the jeep blindfolded, he was subjected to even more physical abuse.

"The soldiers took me out and led me along the street. I was still blindfolded. While we were walking, one of the soldiers took the blindfold off me and I saw that I was on al-Harika Street. Then a soldier blindfolded me again, tightening it painfully. I didn’t say anything because I was afraid that if I asked the soldier to take it off, he would hit me," he added.

When he was walking, his head was pushed down forcibly and whenever he tried to lift his head up out of discomfort, the soldier pushed his head down harder.

"Then the soldiers took me inside the army base in Kiryat Arba. They took me into a room on the base. I was still blindfolded but I could tell that there were soldiers there.

One of them swore at me, saying "You son of a bitch". He spoke to me in Arabic and accused me of throwing stones," Abd al-Razeq recalled.

Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967. More than 600,000 Israeli Jews live in settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Israeli settlers in occupied Hebron are known to be especially violent, yet act with almost total impunity while under the protection of Israeli forces.
