A five-year-old Egyptian girl died earlier this weak after being brutally beaten by her father for not doing her homework, Egyptian news outlet Youm7 reported.

The girl was admitted to the Boulaq ad-Daqrour hospital, which notified police in Giza on Wednesday of the girl's injuries.

Images posted online of the child showed bad bruising on her head, body and chest.

Further investigation by the police revealed that the girl's father had beaten her with a plastic pipe because she had failed to complete her homework.

Neighbours of the family reportedly tried to intervene after hearing her screams, but arrived when she was too abdly beaten.

According to police, the girl's father admitted to beating her but said that he did not intend to kill his daughter.

The incident sparked outrage on social media, where many Egyptians expressed their grief about the attack, while some called for the father to be executed for his actions.
