A young Palestinian was shot and detained by Israeli forces near the Hawara checkpoint in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday night,  official Palestinian Authority (PA) news agency Wafa reported.

The Palestinian's vehicle was confiscated, local sources were cited as saying.

The Palestinian was shot by the Israeli military with several rounds, said Red Crescent official Ahmad Jibril, who added that medics were attacked and stopped from assisting the injured.

It comes after soldiers killed two Palestinians, including a 16-year-old, earlier on Tuesday in the West Bank.

At least 216 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers so far this year.

The West Bank, including East Jerusalem, has been occupied by Israel since 1967.

There are now more than 700,000 settlers in these territories and their presence is considered a key barrier to realising a workable two-state solution.
