A video showing a football fan celebrating Algeria getting through to the African Cup of Nations final by wielding a chainsaw violently on the famed Champs-Elysees street in Paris circulated on social media platforms this week.

The clip showed the man holding an electric chainsaw, waving it into the air while going around in circles.

Dozens of people were arrested while out on the streets to celebrate after Algeria knocked Nigeria out of the tournament with a 2-1 victory in the semi-finals on Sunday.

In Paris, fans blocked traffic on the Champs-Elysees. They reportedly threw fireworks at officers deployed to the site, and several dustbins were set on fire. Twenty-five people were arrested.

Meanwhile, videos from Lyon showed several fires lit and the fire department reported dozens of cars being torched.

Separately in Marseille, fans reportedly threw smoke bombs, projectiles, and firecrackers at police as thousands flocked to the port area to see the Bastille Day fireworks.

Police in riot gear used tear gas to disperse the crowds on the streets, and some fans hurled stones and bottles back at the officers.
