An American soldier, who was part of a force fighting the Islamic State group in the region, died in Jordan on Tuesday, the US military has announced.

The US Department of Defense (DoD) said Wednesday that the soldier died while supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, aimed at defeating IS in Iraq and Syria.

The casualty was identified as Spc. Nick Bravo Regules, 20, from Largo, Florida, who died from a non-combat-related incident although his death is under investigation.

In March, two US military personnel were killed in an attack on coalition forces battling IS in Iraq. The US attributed the deaths to "enemy forces".

Jordan is a key player in Operation Resolve and has sent aircraft and soldiers as part of the mission to defeat IS.
