UN urges Sudan's military to allow Khartoum massacre probe
The United Nations' top human rights official is urging Sudan's military rulers to allow her office to investigate a deadly crackdown on pro-democracy protesters.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said Monday Sudan's military-backed government had not responded to the request for cooperation in investigating allegations of serious human rights crimes, including the rape and sexual abuse of both women and men.
She also urged authorities to "immediately" restore severed internet services.
Protest organizers say security forces killed over 128 people across Sudan, after they violently dispersed a sit-in outside the military's headquarters in the capital, Khartoum, on June 3.
Authorities have offered a lower death toll of 61, including three from the security forces.
