Tunisia tennis star Ons Jabeur has ended the 2022 season at second in the world rankings, the main women's professional tennis authority said this week.

Though Jabeur's season came to an end with defeat at the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Finals in Texas on Friday, she has much to celebrate as she was named the second-best tennis player in the world.

Jabeur ranks second only to Polish player Iga Swiatek, who has dominated the 2022 tour, the WTA said in its year-end rankings Monday.

"What a season it has been, so many emotions, titles, and memories," she said on Tuesday via Twitter.

"I was close to making it even bigger but I know what I have to do to reach higher summits next year!"

Jabeur reached the career-high No. 2 ranking in June, after winning major tournaments in Berlin and Madrid earlier in the year.

She reached the finals of both the US Open and Wimbledon to become the first Arab and African player to reach the final stage of a Grand Slam tournament.

The Tunisian ace has had her share of adversity with injuries sustained in June and in August seeing her miss vital tournaments.

The 28-year-old has soared through the WTA rankings over the past couple of seasons, making the top 10 by the end of last year.
