Trump says Jews who vote for Kamala Harris ‘should have their head examined’

Former US president Donald Trump has said any Jewish person who votes for Democrat candidate Kamala Harris "should immediately have their head examined".

In a post on Truth Social, a social media platform owned by Trump, the Republican candidate attacked Harris and her "terrible and insulting" meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The newly elected Democrat candidate told Netanyahu she hopes to seal a peace deal, insisting she would not be "silent" on the suffering in Gaza.

Trump also mentioned Harris skipping Netanyahu's speech in Congress, saying it was an "obligation" as the Vice President to attend.

"Her [Harris] ineptness will greatly prolong the war and delay the hostage release," referring to Israel's war on Gaza and the release of Israeli captives. He added that she is part of the same administration that "embarrassed us in AFGHANISTAN with their gross incompetence".

According to The Washington Post, Harris missed Netanyahu's address and instead attended a separate campaign event in Indianapolis.

Trump also called out any potential religious voters who would vote for Harris or any Democrat candidate.

"Any Jewish person who votes for Kamala, or a Democrat, should immediately have their head examined. Likewise Catholics, who are being persecuted by this Administration, should not be voting for radical left Kamala," he stated.

The post comes a day after the Republican met Netanyahu in Florida to try to mend their relationship.

This was not the first time Trump has made such comment, with the former president saying Jewish Biden voters "should have their head examined" in April, accusing the current president of wanting to "immediately stop aid to Israel".

At the same time, the candidate also said Jews who vote for Democrats "hate Israel" and their country in April.

Trump has been using his presidential campaign to garner religious support by accusing Harris of prejudice against people who are Jewish. However, some critics argue that his remarks are themselves antisemitic, given they incite hatred on Jews due to their political affiliation. 

The former president alleged Harris, who is married to a Jewish man, "doesn't like Jewish people" and "doesn't like Israel" at a religious convention in Florida.

He also claimed that Harris "is totally against the Jewish people" in North Carolina on Wednesday.
