Russian missiles have hit the Ukrainian town of Vasylkiv southwest of the capital, Kyiv, setting an oil terminal ablaze, the town's mayor said in a video posted online.

"The enemy wants to destroy everything around," said the mayor, Natalia Balasinovich.

Photographs and video posted online showed large flames rising under the night sky.

It was the third day since Russian leader Vladimir Putin unleashed a full-scale invasion that has killed dozens of people, is forcing tens of thousands to flee Ukraine, and has sparked fears of a wider conflict in Europe.

Moscow's invasion, which came after weeks of tension, has sparked global outcry and prompted punishing sanctions from the West, including some against Putin himself.
