Arsenal footballer Thomas Partey confirmed he has become Muslim in a light video that also revealed details of his relationship.

Partey's video was posted onto social media by prominent Ghanaian journalist Nana Aba Anamoah on Friday.

"I grew up with Muslims so, at the end of the day, it's the same thing," Partey, who announced that his Muslim name is Yakubu, said, according to the Pulse Ghana news website.

Asked why he converted, the Ghanian national team's vice-captain explained: "I have a girl I love."

"I know my side chicks will leave me but it's no problem," midfielder Partey was quoted as saying before he let out a laugh.

He then confirmed that his partner, who has long been rumoured to be a Moroccan woman, is Muslim.

The Twitter video comes after Partey was photographed posing next to a Muslim religious leader, or imam, in an image uploaded to Facebook by journalist Chris Wheatley in March.
