Three people were killed and dozens injured on Wednesday in the Syrian city of Aleppo after a crumbling mosque damaged by regime's airstrikes finally collapsed.

The Al-Qadoumi Mosque, which has not been repaired since the regime recaptured the east of the city in 2017, collapsed as worshipers prayed for Isha, the night-time daily prayer observed by Muslims.

The mosque was badly damaged by regime and Russian airstrikes during the battle for the east of Aleppo in April 2017.

People had reportedly complained about the conditions of the ancient mosque - located in al-Tananir square in Al-Jadidah neighbourhood - to the ministry of endowment, but received no response.

Since 2017, many civilians including children died in different neighborhoods in Aleppo, one of the most populated regions in the war-torn country, as a result of the collapse of buildings damaged by airstrikes carried out by Syrian regime and Russia or unexploded ordnance.

Syria's war has killed a total of more than 370,000 people and displaced millions since it started in 2011 with a brutal crackdown on anti-government protests.
