A video appearing to show a Swedish teacher bullying a class of Muslim students went viral on social media on Saturday, prompting Swedish authorities to open an investigation.

The video was allegedly filmed in a language class for refugees in the Swedish port of Malmo. It shows a middle-aged female teacher yelling in Swedish at her class, which includes several young women wearing wearing a hijab.

The teacher's anger was apparently sparked by one student's inability or shyness to name male genitalia in Swedish.

"What does a man have? What is it called? Say it!" the teacher screamed while hitting the student's desk with the palm of her hand.

"I'm scared, I want to leave," a woman student is heard saying. Redirecting her anger towards the student, the teacher shouted at her extensively and refused to allow her to leave the class, according to the video.

Swedish authorities immediately opened an investigation into the incident.

"All discrimination and violation against students are prohibited according to Swedish law," the Swedish government stated on Saturday.

According to the school's headmaster, the teacher was replaced by a substitute, and counselling was offered to the students.
