A video showing a Saudi girl recklessly pointing a weapon at passers-by on a public road has gone viral, sparking outrage from social media users.

The footage, which is only 20-seconds long, shows the girl on the back of a motorbike carrying a pistol.

The man who filmed the short clip is seen chasing the motorbike to confirm that the passenger was indeed holding a weapon.

Mecca police authorities said the suspects were identified as a 20-year-old and a 30-year-old and have been referred to prosecutors in the kingdom for further action, according to local Makkah News.

"What is happening to Saudi Arabia? This wasn't the norm in the past. What is going on?" one viewer said in the comments section on the YouTube video.

"This girl thinks she's in Grand Theft Auto," another viewer commented, referring to the popular UK-made game, but set in the US.

The footage was also shared by the Saudi ministry of interior on its official Snapchat account.

According to Gun Policy, the estimated total number of guns (both licit and illicit) held by civilians in Saudi Arabia in 2017 was 5,468,000.
