Satellite images have revealed damage to areas of an Israeli Air Force base targeted by Iranian missiles on Tuesday, The Associated Press reported.

The images from Planet Labs PBC show that rockets struck two aircraft hangars housing F-35 fighter jets at the Nevatim base in the Negev (Naqab) Desert.

A large hole can be seen in one of the hangars, as well as debris scattered around the building. The other hangar hit by the strike appears partially damaged.

A separate analysis by CNN found that Iranian missiles struck a Mossad headquarters and the Tel Nof air base, in addition to Nevatim.

The Israeli military acknowledged some damage to their sites, but said there were no casualties and no aircraft damaged. A censor was imposed by the army on information about the strikes, Israeli media reported.

Following its launch of over 180 of missiles on Tuesday, Iran said it had targeted Israeli military sites in response to the assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and Iran Revolutionary Guards Corps officials. Haniyeh, who was Hamas' political chief, was killed in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Prior to the strikes, reports emerged that the United States had warned its ally of an imminent Iranian attack.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said  Iran would "pay" for what he described as a "big mistake". Washington has cautioned Israel against attacks on Iranian nuclear sites, however after nearly a year of war on Gaza has appeared unable to restrain its ally.

Fears of further regional escalation have been raised, with Israel now attempting an invasion of Lebanon.

Israel's war on Gaza has killed more than 41,000 people in Gaza and wounded close to 100,000 others. In Lebanon, Israeli strikes have killed 1,974 people and wounded 9,384.
