The head of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Dagalo, also known as Hemedti, has fired his top political adviser, Youssif Ibrahim Ezzat.

Ezzat said on Thursday that he was let go from his position due to political differences with the deputy RSF commander Abelrahim Dagalo, who is the brother of the leader.

"Neither experience nor convictions allow me to work under Abdelrahim’s leadership because political work was linked to brother Hemedti as vice president of the Sovereignty Council , which is a job of a political nature," he said in a statement on social media platform X.

The firing of Ezzat has exposed rifts and divisions within the group.

Since April last year, a war between the RSF and the Sudanese army has been raging on, led by General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan.

Abdelrahim Dagalo has been sanctioned by the US for human rights abuses. Several international efforts to achieve peace have failed since last year.

The war has plunged Sudan into a deep humanitarian crisis, with around 26 million people facing acute food insecurity levels. Many parts of Sudan are inaccessible to aid workers due to ongoing fighting.

"There are plenty of areas we cannot access, sometimes because they are very dangerous, and sometimes we do not receive permission," Pierre Dorbes, a representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), said on Wednesday.

The conflict has left tens of thousands dead and displaced more than ten million people, according to the United Nations.
