Qatar appoints first ambassador to UAE since Gulf crisis
Qatar has appointed an ambassador to the UAE six years after Abu Dhabi severed ties with Doha in 2017 over a political dispute.
The Emiri Diwan said that Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani had appointed Sultan Salmin al-Mansouri as ambassador to UAE, according to a statement on Sunday.
The appointment marks the final step in the rapprochement between both states after ending the Gulf rift.
The move came months after the two Gulf states announced the reopening of missions in their respective countries.
In 2017, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt severed ties with Qatar, accusing it of allegedly sponsoring terrorism – allegations which Doha staunchly denied.
In 2021, the countries reconciled following an agreement signed in the Saudi city of al-Ula.
Qatar has also repaired ties with Saudi Arabia since then and other countries part of the blockade.
