A Palestinian teenager was killed in the early hours of Monday after clashes broke out during an Israeli raid on a Palestinian camp in the occupied West Bank.
Jibril Muhammad Kamal Al-Ladaa, 17, was announced dead by the Palestinian Health Ministry after being shot directly in the head by Israeli troops. He was laid to rest hours later.
The ministry said another six civilians were wounded, including three in critical condition.
Israeli special forces stormed the Aqabat Jabr camp in Jericho at dawn in search of a number of wanted men, sources confirmed to The New Arab’s sister site Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, resulting in a clash with residents and resistance fighters in the camp.
Al-Ladaa was reportedly killed as Israeli troops clashed with the Palestinians.
Ahmed Jihad Abu Al-Assal - the son of the Jericho governor - and Ahmed Jaber Wahdan, both in their twenties, were arrested.
Aqabat Jabr camp has been raided repeatedly by Israeli forces in recent months, like other towns across the West Bank.
Injuries and arrests were reported elsewhere on Monday, as Israeli forces also stormed the Nur Shams camp in Tulkarm, in the West Bank’s north.
Videos shared online showed several Israeli military vehicles entering the camp.
One Palestinian was injured after being shot in the waist and another was arrested during that raid, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported.
There were reports of arrests in other West Bank towns on Monday, including 53-year-old former prisoner Samer Odeh who was taken from his home in Tamoun, and Islam Nasser Jabareen who was arrested in Beitunia, next to Ramallah.
More than 100 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli military forces and Israeli settlers since the start of this year.
The violence has worsened since Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formed his new government late last year, believed to be the most extreme-right government Israel has ever had.
It includes politicians like Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, who have made inflammatory remarks regarding Palestinians.
