Palestinian teenager shot by Israeli forces in 'critical condition'

A Palestinian teenager was critically injured after being shot by Israeli forces who raided a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.

The teenager was shot on Tuesday morning when occupying forces carried out a violent raid on the Dheisheh refugee camp, south of the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem, security sources told Palestinian Authority's news agency Wafa.

He was taken to a nearby hospital in nearby Beit Jala where he was regarded as being in critical condition.

During the raid, camp residents tried to prevent soldiers from detaining activists with Israeli forces firing teargas and stun grenades before opening fire.

Israeli forces left after detaining four Palestinians, including a 48-year-old man and his 20-year-old son, as well as a 55-year-old man.

Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967, in defiance of international law, and commits regular abuses against Palestinian civilians.

More than 600,000 Israeli Jews live in settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, in constructions considered illegal under international law.

Israeli forces regularly raid Palestinian towns in the West Bank at night, often to arrest Palestinians. ِ

According to human rights groups, Israel detained 8,000 Palestinians in 2021.
