A young Palestinian man was killed at dawn on Monday after Israeli forces raided Nablus in the occupied West Bank for the third time in three days.

Saleh Muhammad Saleh Sabra, 22, was shot in the chest and announced dead by the Palestinian health ministry, after Nablus residents fired back at soldiers.

He was laid to rest later in the day, while another person was taken to hospital with injuries.

Israeli troops stormed the house of detainee Khaled Kharousha between the Askar camp and Al-Masaken neighbourhood east of Nablus, local sources told The New Arab’s sister site, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

Videos shared on social media showed Israeli troops taking measurements of Kharousha’s residence.

Israel regularly demolishes the homes of Palestinian fighters it claims are behind attacks targeting Israeli forces or civilians, as a form of collective punishment against their families.

Kharousha is wanted for a shooting in late February near the Palestinian village of Hawara, which left one Israeli soldier and one Israeli settler dead.

His father, Abdelfattah Kharousha, was killed by Israeli forces during a raid on the Jenin camp days later.

Hawara was the scene of Israeli settler violence earlier this year that saw several homes and cars burnt and a number of Palestinian casualties.

Monday’s raid comes a day after two other Palestinians were detained in Nablus for another shooting in Hawara in March. On Saturday, two Palestinians were killed in Nablus’ Balata camp.

Elsewhere in the West Bank on Monday, Israeli forces arrested a man named Tarek Saleh in the village of Arura, northwest of Ramallah.

Israeli troops were fired on as they stormed the village looking for Saleh. The reasons behind his arrest were unknown.

In the Tulkarem camp in the northern West Bank, Israeli forces raided the house of a wanted man named Maharaj Shehadeh but did not find him.

Israeli soldiers spread out across the camp, including snipers who took to the roofs of some buildings, local sources in Tulkarem told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

Monday’s raids coincide with the 75th anniversary of Nakba when tens of thousands of Palestinians were expelled from their lands by Zionist militias upon the creation of the state of Israel in 1948.

Israel celebrates it as its "Independence Day."

Since the start of this year, 152 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

At least 33 Palestinians were killed in five days of Israeli bombardment of the besieged Gaza enclave last week, including children.

One Israeli was killed in retaliatory rocket fire.

A truce came into effect on Saturday through mediation efforts from Egypt.
