Palestine Action 'shuts down' Israeli arms firm Elbit Systems' London base

Pro-Palestine activists are "occupying" an Israeli arms manufacturer's London base in the latest in a line of similar moves against the company.

Palestine Action claims to have "shut down" Elbit Systems UK's Holborn headquarters after climbing up the entrance at 10am on Friday and stopping use of the location.

The activist group said the façade at the location has been sprayed with messages such as "evict Elbit" and "Shut Elbit Down", in addition to "Free Palestine".

Palestine Action said: "The site premises have been sprayed completely red to signify the bloodshed from which Elbit profits.

"[T]heir UK-made drones and military tech [is] being used to commit war crimes and repression in Palestine and across the globe".

The campaign group said, since it was created and began its fight against Elbit, including on multiple occasions at the Holborn site, which also appears to be home to other, unrelated organisations, the weapons company has begun been forking out more money for security.

As part of this, the firm has brought on a round-the-clock security team for its London base, Palestine Action claimed.

The activist organisation asserts it has "disrupted Elbit" for 105 out of 365 days through its activities at the company's 10 British locations, as well as locations belonging to APPH.

This firm provides Elbit with "drone parts", according to Palestine Action.

Other demonstrators have attended the scene in London to urge Elbit Systems' eviction from their London HQ, the pro-Palestine group said, adding that a "drum regiment" was there to support.

The current move against Elbit's London headquarters, like any other Palestine Action takes, aims to stop weaponry, including drones and others, which are produced in the UK from being exported to Israel, the group said.

The group claimed: "This tech, manufactured at Elbit’s 10 sites across the UK, is sold to Israel for the express purpose of repressing, brutalising, and killing Palestinian people.

It further alleged that Elbit says its technology is "'battle-tested'… on Palestinian civilians" and "then sold on the global market to some of the world’s most repressive regimes."

Palestine Action previously worked with Extinction Rebellion North activists in February to halt operations at an Elbit factory in the Greater Manchester area.
