The Palestinian Authority (PA) has called for an international investigation after Israeli forces reportedly carried out "heinous and horrific crimes" at a hospital in Gaza.

Kamal Adwan Hospital, located in the north of the strip, had been besieged for over a week when forces reportedly bulldozed parts of the site, burying alive and killing Palestinians there on Saturday.

"The occupation [Israeli] bulldozers trampled the tents of the displaced people in the hospital yard and brutally crushed them," said Anas al-Sharif, a reporter for pan-Arab broadcaster Al Jazeera.

The Palestinian foreign ministry said it "demands an immediate international investigation into the initial reports that the occupation committed heinous and horrific crimes" in the hospital's courtyard.

The PA's health minister, Mai al-Kaila, also called for an international investigation, her ministry said on Telegram.

"Minister al-Kaila [said] that the world must take serious action to uncover the details of this case, and not take lightly or remain silent about the information coming from the Gaza Strip," the ministry added.

Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor called for an "independent international investigation".

In the US, the Council on American-Islamic Relations urged the United Nations probe reports of civilians being buried alive.

Al Jazeera later reported that Israel had withdrawn from Kamal Adwan.

Israeli forces' activities at the hospital have been completed, the military's Arabic spokesperson Avichay Adraee said on social media platform X.

He claimed that forces in the area had "destroyed terrorist infrastructure" and found "numerous combat tools" such as rifles and RPG rockets belonging to Hamas, adding that some 90 arrests were made.

It comes after Israel previously claimed the Palestinian armed group had a base beneath al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

Hamas denied the allegation, which the Israeli military was unable to prove after raiding the medical facility in November.
