Morocco seizes over 11 tonnes of cannabis resin
Morocco seized over 11 tonnes of cannabis resin and arrested a suspected smuggler in the northern port city of Tangier, according to a statement published on Thursday.
Tangier's judicial police on Wednesday night seized "11.44 tonnes of chira (cannabis resin)," said the DGSN, the national security service.
The drug was "concealed in a shipment of agricultural products for export on a truck registered in Morocco" and headed for a Spanish port, the statement added.
The 33-year-old Moroccan driver of the truck was arrested, according to the DGSN.
Morocco is one of the world's top cannabis producers, although the authorities say they are cracking down and seized nearly 180 tonnes of the drug last year.
