More deaths in Egypt protests

Egyptian security forces are believed responsible for the deaths of at least two people on Monday, including a member of an "ultras" group in Cairo, and an elderly woman at another rally in the city.

Egyptian Interior Minister Mohammad Ibrahim announced on Monday that security forces had arrested 516 members of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood on Sunday.

Clashes broke out on Sunday between demonstrators and police at rallies to mark the fourth anniversary of the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak. At least 17 people were killed across the country.

The anti-coup alliance that formed after the overthrow of Mohamed Morsi by the country's military leaders said that the killings had launched a campaign of "unstoppable rage" by protesters.

'Days of rage'

"These are the days of rage. We salute the revolutionaries whose honourable actions in the streets have become an example of the military oppression," read a statement by the group. "The revolution will continue to call for the fall of Abdel Fattah al-Sisi."

Anti-coup protesters continued demonstrations for a second day on Monday with vigils and human chains.

Scenes of the funerals of protesters killed by police have shaken the country. In Belbis, huge crowds turned out for the burial of an engineering student who was shot in the head.

Protesters shot 

Eyewitnesses who were present at the protest on Monday where the student was killed told al-Araby al-Jadeed that security forces shot live rounds at the protesters to disperse the crowds.

"Security forces followed the rally in armoured vehicles and state security trucks, and there were no reports of the police attempting to disperse the rally or any clashes between the two sides," an eyewitness said.

There were 38 protests in Beheira on Monday, with security forces firing live rounds and birdshot into the crowds, resulting in at least two deaths, according to medical sources.

Anti-coup protesters also rallied in al-Haram and Faisal in Giza, carrying pictures of former President Mohammad Morsi.

Nationwide demonstrations 

Monday saw 37 protests in al-Dakhliya, while Qalyubiyah witnessed more than 40 demonstrations against the Sisi administration.

A tram was set ablaze in Alexandria, and a homemade bomb exploded close to the Roman Museum in the coastal town. No casualties were reported, said security sources.

An armoured vehicle was also set alight in the Borg el-Arab area of west Alexandria, amid tightened security.
