Mohamed Salah played a critical role in Liverpool's thrashing of Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, dispelling questions about the forward's age.

Salah bagged a goal and provided two assists in the Merseyside club's 3-0 away victory over their North West rivals, who now languish in 14th place in the Premier League.

After a closely fought initial ten minutes, Liverpool had a goal disallowed but despite the disappointment, Luis Diaz headed in a stunning cross from Salah in the 35 minute to the silence of the Stretford End.

Diaz found the net for the second time seven minutes later, again assisted by Salah, with Liverpool in the driving seat for the rest of the game.

Salah bagged a goal in the second half, securing three points for Liverpool who sit in second place in the Premier League.

For the club's new coach Arne Slott, the season could not have started any better after replacing the Liverpool legend Jurgen Klopp over the summer, with three wins in the first three games.

There had been questions regarding the 32-year-old Salah's ability to keep pace in the Premier League this season, widely considered to be the fastest in the world, but his performance against Manchester United showed he is still one of the best forwards in England.

He had been linked again this summer to a move to Saudi Arabia, but said he will stay at Anfield for one more season with calls from Liverpool fans to extend his contract.

Salah appeared to put pressure on Liverpool to make him an offer, saying "nobody in the club" had discussed a new contract with him and resigned himself to the liklihood that "it’s my last year in the club".

The Egyptian king has become a firm favourite at Anfield, leading the club to their first title in the Premier League era in 2019-20, linking up with Sadio Mane to score 37 goals between them.
