English football team Liverpool will be playing a match in Qatar to compete for the Club World Cup.

The team will be competing against Mexican football club Monterrey on Wednesday evening in the Doha football stadium which was built for the 2022 World Cup.

The Club World Cup tournament is a yearly competition organised by global football federation FIFA. It features seven teams - the winners of the six continental confederations, along with the host nation's league champions.

The game is a perceived opportunity for some Liverpool squad to prepare for playing in the 2022 World Cup.

Some Liverpool players may return to Doha with their national teams to participate in the World Cup. Football analysts say the Club World Cup will give them the chance to play in the conditions that they will in the upcoming global tournament.

They will be playing their upcoming match Doha's Khalifa International Stadium, which is one of the venues for the World Cup.

Most of the World Cup matches will be taking place in December, which is being perceived as good climatic practice for the players.
