LGBT Syrian refugees land in UK ahead of Pride parade

A group of LGBT Syrian refugees have arrived in Britain after they won an appeal to be settled in the country, The Guardian reported on Friday.

The four refugees arrived in London on Tuesday from Turkey ahead of the annual Pride Parade on Saturday.

In April, 15 LGBT Syrian refugees, living in Turkey, launched a legal claim against the UK Home Office, accusing the British government of abandoning them despite assurances they will be brought to Britain.

The group were accepted by the Home Office onto a resettlement scheme that curtails the lengthy asylum process but were left in limbo for more than two years.

Homosexuality is not illegal in Turkey, but those who identify as LGBT are often subject to homophobic attacks and abuse.

Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of London on Saturday for Britain's biggest LGBT pride parade.

The celebration includes a parade with 30,000 participants from 600 groups, including a Muslim LGBT group.

Organisers say they've aimed to increase the event's diversity, and London Mayor Sadiq Khan said he hoped it would be the biggest-ever Pride parade.

It is unclear whether the refugees attended the event.
