Kuwait's public prosecution released on bail three men on Monday who were arrested for allegedly financing the Lebanon-based Hezbollah group.

The three defendants were released on bail of 5,000 Kuwaiti dinars each ($16,540) and will not be allowed to leave the country, according to the local Al-Qabas newspaper, quoting a source.

Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed Shia political and paramilitary movement in Lebanon, is designated a terrorist organisation by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

The source told Al-Qabas that eight defendants remain in custody at Kuwait's central prison. It added that a total of 23 people were arrested in the case, including citizens and foreigners.

The prosecution in November ordered the detainees to be held at the central prison for 21 days while investigations continue into alleged "membership in a prohibited party, money laundering and spying".
