Kuwait to open night schools to compensate lockdown school closures

Kuwait is planning to open night schools for students to compensate for the loss of classroom time during the coronavirus lockdown period.

Education Ministry Undersecretary Dr Ali Al-Yaqoub said on Tuesday that the ministry plans to work with the health ministry to begin a night school scheme in November.

He said the ministry oversaw 34 diagnostic and analytical tests out to find ways to improve student productivity which showed that absence from schools affected education, according to Kuwait Times.

Yaqoub added that a system is in place to review measures that are being put in place to boost student productivity, in conjunction with Kuwait's health authorities.

Kuwait in October opened doors for all students for the first time since the pandemic, after nearly 18 months of schools closing their doors.

Last month, some Kuwaiti teachers staged a sit-in in front of the education ministry to protest a decision to ban unvaccinated teachers from entering schools without taking a weekly coronavirus test.
