Jordanian and Palestinian PMs meet in Amman
Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh received his Palestinian counterpart Mohammad Shtayyeh in the capital Amman on Monday.
Al-Khasawneh said that Jordan's diplomatic efforts are currently focussed on keeping the ceasefire in Gaza, preserving the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and stopping unilateral Israeli measures, including provocations against worshipers, building settlements, confiscating land and measures to displace the residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood.
Jordan is committed to finding a just and lasting solution that leads to the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, according to a statement from the prime minister's office.
Shtayyeh pointed to the joint diplomatic effort undertaken by the foreign ministers of Jordan and Palestine with influential countries in the world that contribute to finding a just solution for the Palestinian cause.
Shtayyeh, who is visiting Jordan as part of a tour that includes several Gulf countries, stressed the importance of launching a comprehensive national dialogue that includes all the Palestinian people, in a way that unifies and strengthens them.
The two prime ministers also discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations and the process of joint cooperation and to take measures to increase the volume of trade exchange between them, agreeing to hold meetings of the Jordanian-Palestinian Joint Higher Committee soon.
They also pointed to the importance of the international community's continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees "UNRWA" to enable it to continue its role supporting Palestinian refugees in the Palestinian territories and surrounding countries, the statement from the prime minister's office added.
