Arab League calls for ‘urgent action’ to stop Israeli aggression in Jenin

The Arab League Council is calling on Israel to halt its military operation in Jenin, where at least 11 people have been killed since a deadly incursion started on Monday in the West Bank city.

The regional body held a session discussing the escalating violence against Palestinian people, and the current operation in Jenin.

The Council slammed Israel’s actions in the West Bank and called for the launching of urgent and intensive Arab diplomatic action through the councils of Arab ambassadors and the missions of the Arab League.

They also urged the International Criminal Court to fulfil its responsibilities in investigating war crimes in the West Bank and holding Israel accountable.

Death toll in Jenin reaches 11

The death toll in Jenin has reached 11, after a Palestinian succumbed to injuries sustained by gunfire, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said. The victim died from a critical wound to the head, it added.

The victim was not identified.

Latin Church in Jenin damaged amid Israeli incursion

Israeli forces target Jenin’s Latin Parish during its assault on the West Bank city.

“In the past two days, the city of Jenin has been subject to unprecedented Israeli aggression, which also caused damage to our Latin Parish in Jenin. We condemn this violence, demand a ceasefire and hope for the pursuit of peace and dialogue to prevent other future unjustified attacks on the population,” said Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Pierbattista Pizzabilla.

Two Palestinians shot near Ramallah by Israeli forces

Two young Palestinians were shot and wounded by live gunfire in the entrance of the West Bank city of al-Bireh, in Ramallah on Tuesday.

The two were shot as confrontations broke out being Palestinians protesting for Jenin and the Israeli army, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa said.

The injuries were reportedly moderate, the news agency said.

UK’s Sunak urges Israel to show ‘restraint’ against Palestinian civilians

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Tuesday urged Israel to protect Palestinian civilians as the country's armed forces carried out their largest military operation in two decades in Jenin, killing at least 10 Palestinians.

"We would say the protection of civilians must be prioritised in any military operation, and we urge the IDF to demonstrate restraint in its operation and for all parties to avoid further escalation in both the West Bank and Gaza, both now and in the days ahead,” he said.

Despite his statement, Sunak reiterated the UK’s support for Israel’s right to “defend itself”.

Palestinian MoH releases names of latest Jenin victims

The Palestinian Ministry of Health revealed the names of the latest victims of the Israeli military aggression on Jenin, where 10 Palestinians have been killed.

The victims were named as 16-year-old Mustafa Imad Qassem and 22-year-old Adiy Ibrahim Khmeiseh.

Their bodies were found overnight, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Israeli back-ups sent to Jenin: local sources

Local sources confirmed to The New Arab's Arabic-language site, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that Israeli forces sent additional back-up to Jenin and its camp, while snipers were deployed on the roofs of buildings in several Jenin neighbourhoods.

Seven injured in combined car-ramming and stabbing attack in Tel Aviv

A combined car-ramming and stabbing attack in Tel Aviv reportedly left at least seven Israelis injured on Tuesday.

The motive of the attack remains unclear, though Israeli officials have labelled it as a "terror incident".

In videos shown online, an armed bystander seems to have shot and killed the suspect.

The incident in the Israeli capital comes as Israel carried out its military aggression in Jenin, where at least 10 Palestinians have been killed.

Al Araby TV crew 'deliberately ' targeted by Israeli forces in Jenin

Al Araby TV reporter Ameed Shehadeh and camera operator Rabie Munie had been covering the Israeli incursion in Jenin when the army began firing at them, damaging their camera equipment and the transmitter.

"I believe I'm sure it was a deliberate targeting of the Al Araby TV camera, not just the camera but also the transmitter," Ameed said. 

Shortage in basic food supplies in Jenin

The head of the Jenin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ammar Abu Bakr, said on Tuesday that the West Bank city is suffering from a shortage of food supplies as a result of the ongoing Israeli military aggression on Jenin and its refugee camp.

Abu Bakr told the official Palestinian news agency Wafa that the Israeli army prevented pharmacies and bakeries from working, in addition to preventing merchants from providing people with basic materials.

The army also barred the entry of food supplies through the Jalama crossing, causing the depletion of a large quantity of food supplies.

Medical staff prohibited from entry to Jenin camp

A spokesperson for the World Health Organization (WHO) said that medical staff were prevented from entering the Jenin camp to treat those who are wounded, as cited by Reuters.

Turkey condemns Israeli military aggression on Jenin

Turkey's Foreign Ministry has condemned the Israeli military operation in the Jenin refugee camp.

"We strongly condemn the incursion carried out by Israeli forces today in the city of Jenin in the West Bank, which is under Israel's occupation," the ministry said in a statement on 3 July.

Urging the Israeli authorities to act with "common sense", it said Ankara is "deeply concerned" that continuing tension in the region could trigger a new spiral of violence.

Gaza hold solidarity protest with Jenin

Palestinians in the coastal enclave of the Gaza Strip held a solidarity protest with the city of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, which is currently experiencing a large-scale military offensive by the Israeli army since Monday morning that has killed at least 10 people.

Participants of the protest carried Palestinian flags and banners which read: "We will defend our city of Jenin," "Gaza will not leave Jenin alone" and ""Israel will pay the price of its crimes." 

Israel 'close to completing' operation in Jenin

Israel is close to completing its Jenin operation, a senior aide to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday after the fiercest fighting in the flashpoint West Bank town in more than two decades killed 10 Palestinians and forced thousands to flee.

The operation "is close to completing the achievement of the goals set," Israeli National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanebi told Kan radio after a relative lull in the clashes overnight.

However, a spokesperson for the Israel army, Daniel Hijri, said Israeli forces are still wanting to "target" 10 targets in the Jenin refugee camp.

Israel's aggression in Jenin has been described as the worst in over two decades.

General strike announced in West Bank in protest over Jenin raid

A general strike will be observed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem on Tuesday, in protest against the Israeli  incursion in Jenin which has killed at 10 Palestinians, and wounding 100.

Shops were closed and life came to a standstill in most areas of the West Bank, the Palestinian official news agency Wafa said.

Calls were made for people to take part in protests and demonstrations in protest against Israel's intensified aggression in the West Bank city, as well as in support of those impacted in Jenin.

UNRWA says it's 'deeply concerned' by Israel's military assault on Jenin

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) expressed 'deep concern' by the impact of the ongoing Israeli army military assault in Jenin and the damage caused to the infrastructure.

The NGO said extensive damage to the camp infrastructure was reported, including damage to its water network. UNRWA also said that water and electricity services have been interrupted in large areas of the camp, as reported by the Palestinian official news agency Wafa.

UNRWA runs 10 installations, operated by 90 agency staff members in Jenin camp. All UNRWA installations, including four schools and one health center, were unable to operate due to the large-scale military assault.

Death toll in Jenin reaches 10: Palestinian MoH

The death toll in Jenin has reached 10, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported, as two more bodies were recovered overnight in the flashpoint city which witnessed an aggressive military assault carried out by Israel.

The Ministry said at least 100 Palestinians have been injured, with 20 in critical condition.
