An Israeli officer who was involved in the alleged branding of Palestinian Arawa Sheikh Ali has been summoned for questioning over the incident.

The summoning comes after Ali, who was arrested during a drug raid on his house in Shu'fat camp in the occupied West Bank, filed a complaint with the Police Investigations Department, offering testimony of the arrest.

According to Ali's lawyer Akram Abu-Libdeh, he also suffered injuries when he was blindfolded and handcuffed. Ali appeared in court over the weekend with bruising on his face.

Israeli police have denied branding him, stating that the mark on Ali's face, which resembled the bottom of the Star of David, was caused by one of the officers' shoes.

The police also claimed that Ali had attempted to resist his arrest, forcing officers to use force during the incident.

Police say they seized hashish, ecstasy and methadone in large quantities during the raid.

Ali has since been released from detention and placed under house arrest, with Judge Adi Bar-Tal stating on Sunday that there were no grounds under the current circumstances to keep him in detention.

She also criticised the police for not giving Ali a medical examination after his arrest.

Another judge, Amir Shaked, said that the police had "no reasonable explanation" for the bruise marks on Ali, and questioned why all 16 officers involved in the raid lacked body camera footage.

He also requested that the police handling of the arrest be investigated on the grounds of police misconduct.
