Scores of Israeli settlers raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Sunday under police protection, the Palestinian Authority’s Wafa news agency reported.
Witnesses said the settlers performed rituals at the Muslim sacred site after entering via the Moroccan Gate.
The Al-Aqsa compound is considered Islam’s third-holiest site, drawing tens of thousands of pilgrims from across Palestine and the world.
Palestinian worshipers have regularly been attacked by Israeli forces in the mosque and Israeli extremists regularly raid the compound.
The mosque is situated in East Jerusalem, which was annexed by Israel in 1967 in a move not recognised by the international community.
