Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei tweeted on Wednesday that Israel will not exist after 25 years and that Iran will not expand talks with the US.

“After negotiations, in Zionist regime they said they had no more concern about Iran for next 25 years; I’d say, firstly, you will not see next 25 years; God willing, there will be nothing as Zionist regime by next 25 years,” said on Twitter.

“Secondly, until then, struggling, heroic and jihadi morale will leave no moment of serenity for Zionists,” he added.

The quote came against a backdrop of a photograph apparently showing the Iranian leader walking on an Israeli flag painted on the ground.

The quote came from a speech Khamenei gave the same day, in which he said Tehran will not expand talks with the US beyond the international negotiations over its nuclear programme.

The Supreme Leader’s statements underscored his lingering distrust of the US and hostility toward Israel as the US Congress prepares to vote on the landmark nuclear agreement reached with Tehran in July.

“[Khomeini] said ‘US is the Great Satan,’ some insist on depicting this Great Satan as an angel,” Khamenei said in another tweet on Wednesday.

“We would negotiate and reach agreement in different levels of ‘state, religion or ethnic groups’ with all countries but the Great Satan,” he added.
