The Israeli military has been striking central and south Gaza as it continues to face resistance from Palestinian groups after ten-months of war.

Gaza faced continued attacks from Israeli forces overnight Monday with tensions across the region high as Iran weighed up a retaliatory response to the Israeli strikes on Beirut and Tehran last week.

Attacks were reported in Deir al-Balah, near Nuseirat camp, and east of Khan Younis, with at least four men killed in the Deir al-Balah attack, according to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

The Israeli army said it had conducted operations in central Gaza and claimed to have killed 20 fighters in "close-quarters combat" and "aerial strikes" over the past days.

More than 1.8 million Palestinians are living in shelters in the al-Mawassi area and facing dire humanitarian conditions amid the spread of disease. The UN said on Monday that the number of children diagnosed with malnutrition in Gaza surged in July compared to the months before.

Lebanon remains on edge ahead of an anticipated response led by Shia militant group Hezbollah against Israel for the killing of top commander Fuad Shukr last week.

Israel said it shot down a drone launched by Hezbollah into northern Israel on Monday night while Israeli jets strike "Hezbollah military structure" near Kfarkela in southern Lebanon.

Lebanon's foreign minister Abdullah Bou Habib was due to arrive in Cairo for talks with his Egyptian counterpart as officials scramble to defuse tensions between Israel and Iran as the war nears its tenth month.
